It’s important to choose the right activities and describe them effectively for an impressive application.  

Tips:
Use action verbs! You can Google them!

  • Be concise. Leave out extra words. Complete sentences are not necessary. You have 150 words max!
  • Include a specific, measurable impact you had or created.
  • Include awards, achievements, or a position.
  • List the activities in order of importance. 
  • Check for spelling or grammatical errors!
  • Ask your parents and guidance counselor or college consultant to review!

Your activities showcase your interests and commitments. This section gives admissions officers insight into your passions and how you utilize your time.

Here are some activity descriptions that crushed it!
Robotics
Lead researcher – Coordinates the research conducted by team. Placed fourth in the qualifying rounds out of 49 teams. Received the Young Investigator Award. State champions.

Instrument
Played second-chair trumpet in Youth Orchestra. Performed in high school pit orchestra for musicals.

Equestrian Sports
Led team of 12 riders in Interscholastic Equestrian Association competitions. Competitor, schooling, and pleasure shows across New England. Barn Hand.

Theatre
Support, create, and manage various aspects of set and costume designs, makeup, stagehand/crew for various productions.

New England Hiker
Hiked up 30 out of the 48 New England 4,000 footers (mostly in the White Mountains). Goal is 48 by 2024.

Hospital Volunteer
Handled the front desk, registered patients for appointments, delivered newspapers to patient rooms, provided fresh water to patients.
