July and August Checklist – Let’s Get Started!
- College Visits. To find the best college for you, attend information sessions and tours. Consider cost, major, location, student population, extracurriculars, social environment, support services, employment opportunities, scholarship opportunities, and academic programs.
- SAT/ACT Registration & Preparation. Visit the College Board and ACT websites to register and prepare online. Chariot Learning of Brighton, NY, is an excellent resource. Contact Mike Bergin.
- Common Application Essay. Get started on your Common Application essay today. The 2023-2024 essay prompts are available on the Common Application website.
Why is it Important?
It’s an opportunity to demonstrate something unique about yourself beyond the information already included in the Common Application, such as profile information, courses, grades, test scores, and activities.
Tips For Writing Your Common Application Essay (or any essay!)
- Let your personality shine.
- The story you tell should be unique to you.
- Stay away from negative tones. The result should be favorable!
- Demonstrate maturity. Remember, you are writing to an adult.
- Show that you have transitioned or grown from an experience.
- Stay within the word limit – no more, no less.
